Tidal Wetlands of the West Coast: Rapid Methods for Assessing Functions and Health

3 Days - $750

Demand is growing for practical methods that estimate, in advance, the "ecological lift" that a tidal restoration project is likely to provide.  On the West Coast this demand is driven by increasing recognition of the importance of tidal marshes not only as habitat for juvenile salmon, but for a host of other functions.  An understanding of those functions is crucial to project design and for estimating mitigation credits.  This course will give you a detailed understanding of each of 10 tidal wetland functions, focusing on practical indicators for estimating them.  We will visit local tidal marshes and practice assessing their functions and condition using two rapid methods -- the Oregon Tidal Wetland HGM Method, and the California Rapid Assessment Method (CRAM) - and will also discuss more intensive methods.  Principles for selecting reference wetlands and prioritizing restoration at a landscape scale will also be covered.  This course is important for resource agencies, land trusts, consultants, and others needing to understand and apply best available science to assess functions or health of tidal wetlands.

Instructor for this course is Adamus.

Anacortes, Washington July 23-25, 2008

An Agenda provided here for the Tidal Wetlands of the West Coast course is from a previous course.  While drastic changes are not anticipated, due to the changing nature of what the instructors feel is critical to teach, please be aware that the topics covered in the agenda may not be exactly what will be covered in a future course.
