Participants
will visit vernal pool habitat and be presented with identifying
characteristics for both common and rare vernal pool plants occurring within
San Diego County. At each field site, participants will be presented
with practical guidelines for planning, implementing, and monitoring vernal
pool habitat restoration projects, where adaptive management is emphasized.
The morning of the first day will be spent in the classroom reviewing basics
of vernal pool habitat and ecology and examining pressed specimens of
species that are difficult to identify in the field. The first
afternoon and all of the second day will be spent in the field. Upon
course completion, students should be able to identify many vernal pool
species and have a better understanding of the challenges presented by
planning and implementing successful vernal pool habitat restoration. Instructor pool: Mason and Sward. |

An Agenda provided here for the Vernal Pool Flora and Habitat Restoration course is from a previous course. While drastic changes are not anticipated, due to the changing nature of what the instructors feel is critical to teach, please be aware that the topics covered in the agenda may not be exactly what will be covered in a future course.
